History and culture of Sa'd al-Saltaneh Caravanserai
Sa’d al-Saltaneh Caravanserai was built during the Qajar Dynasty by the rule of Naseredin Shah (who ruled from 1848 to 1896 m).
Sad al-Saltaneh Carvansarai is one of the biggest roofed caravanserais of Iran located in Qazvin city and dating back in Qajar dynasty. Sa’d al-Saltaneh Inn until the First World War was the center of commerce and business activity of the city, which lost its way as a bridge between Europe and Asia after the political changes of the Russian government and partially lost its economic life.
Sa’d al-Saltaneh Carvansarai is an indoor-city Carvansarai, means that was built at the heart of the city. Naturally, the caravansarais that are placed inside cities, are more than just a place for resting for the passengers and become an important place for Trading.The complex consists of 7 yards, a bazaar, and a dedicated bathhouse. It has a very beautiful historical site that separated by different rooms and it considered to be the largest inland caravansarai Iran. which was built 700 years ago, during the Qajar area.
Sa’d al-Saltaneh is the largest urban caravanserai in Iran, with around 400 rooms and shops. Sa'd al-Saltaneh bazaarche with chambers on its side walls, which is beside traditional bazaar, has a space about three hectars. There are different kinds of handicraft shops such as carpet weaving (gelim bafi), Jajim bafi (a kind of carpet), pottery and coppery dishes, jewelry, wood carving, perfumery, glassware and etc.
Architecture Of Sa'd al-Saltaneh Caravanserai
The most valuable part of the building is Chahar-Sogh (an area is said to have a quadrilateral space that can be indoors or open) that are created from the vertical intersection of two rows and above it is a large tiled vault. Its ceiling has skylights which is made of shard and connects the street to the main courtyard of Sa'd al-Saltaneh.
It has a large vault the four side of the dome, the four half-size vaults with formal and skylight semi circles that make the space large, the Octagonal plan at the entrance, decorated with bricks and tiles.
In south part of Sa'd al-Saltaneh ther is a covered brick space with one hundred coulums.In fact it is as the storeroom of Sa'd al-saltaneh.

Walking through the gates, corridors, hidden yards, galleries, gives you an amazing feeling. You can find plenty of local hand craft shops. Local designer of jewelries, painters and several shops producing on site shoes and bags from leather and etc. The caravanserai is located near to historical places such as, Qajar Bathhouse, Chehel Sotun and the Grand Bazaar of Qazvin.
