Also known as
- Martyrdom of Abbas Babaei
- Aramgah Shahid Babaei
Geographical location of Tomb of Shahid Babaei
It is located in Qazvin Martyrs Cemetery (in Farsi Shahid means martyr), Jomhouri Eslami Boulevard, Qazvin Province, Iran. Also Imamzadeh Hossein (third Imam of Shia) is placed right at its corner.
History and culture of Tomb of Shahid Babaei
He was born in a middle-class religious family in Qazvin on December 5, 1950. After getting his diploma in 1969, he got into medical school but he volunteered to participate in Air force classes instead as he was more interested in piloting. After finishing primary courses, he went to America for further education in 1970.
Abbas Babaei (also transliterated as Abbaas Babaee) had successfully finished 60 war missions before his death. On his last mission, however, he was hit by a 23 mm round of an air defense system on Sardasht air space, a city located in West Azerbaijan, while he was in the rear seat of an F-5B on August 6, 1987. It was Eid Qurban (literally Festival of the Sacrifice) and he was returning from a mission in which he went to Iraq to set up a tactical plan to attack.
Tips and ideas
Martyrs cemetery may not interest everyone to bother enough to visit, but if you just take a moment to think deeper you can see that all those people chose to accommodate there for good so that people like us could have a better life. They fought so selflessly knowing that they may never return to their family, their loved ones, just so their fatherland would stay safe for people who live in it. The least we can do is to go there, walk around, and show respect to these noblemen who sacrificed themselves believing that it would make the world a better place. And who knows? Maybe it would. We only have to give it more time.
As I mentioned, it is located near Imamzadeh Hossein so you can kill two birds with one stone and visit this marvelous dome on your way out. Also Sepah Street, the first modern street of Iran, is only a few minutes away which has housed Jomeh Mosque, Sheikh al-Islam School and Mosque, Ali Qapu Gate (also transliterated as Aali Qapou or Aaly Ghapoo), Masjed Jameh Cistern, and Sepah Bazaarcheh.
REMEMBER Qazvin is a small city so you don’t need any vehicle to go around. Also, we have provided you a map below that shows every nearby attraction which can be reached by no more than a ten-minute walk.
