History and culture of Green Mosque
Akhund neighborhood is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Qazvin, which is named after the famous mystic of Qazvin, Mullah Khalil bin Ghazi of Qazvin, who was known as Mullah Khalila Mullah. The tomb of this mystic is located in the same neighborhood and in the Mostashari House. When you walk in this neighborhood, you will see many mosques, which is definitely too much for one neighborhood, and it can be boldly said that you will not find a neighborhood in Qazvin that has this number of mosques. The Green Mosque is just one of them in this historic neighborhood.
The Green Mosque is a small yet clean mosque that belongs to the Qajar period. This mosque was built in 1263 AH by Haji Yousef Qazvini. This building has been used for more than 130 years and people offer prayers in it and also religious ceremonies such as Muharram are held there. The Green Mosque was registered in the list of national monuments of Iran in 2001 with the number 4202.
This mosque now has no courtyard, but it has a nave with 6 columns, and there are inscriptions on the door of the mosque on which poems, the name of the founder of the mosque, and the time of its construction are written.
Tips and ideas
As mentioned in the description, this mosque is located in the old neighborhood of Akhund. Fortunately, most of the old texture of this neighborhood has been preserved and small steps have been taken to preserve this texture, but unfortunately, this texture is disappearing and new apartments and houses are replacing the old and clean houses. As you visit the Green Mosque, walk through the alleys of this neighborhood and see its beautiful texture, although it is being destroyed. Other historical attractions near this mosque include; There is a consultant house and a Bolour bathhouse, which is also a stone museum. If you are interested in all kinds of stones, do not miss this museum. In addition to these two, the Sardar Mosque and School near the Imamzadeh of Seyyed Sultan Mohammad (AS), with its extraordinary tiles, is waiting for you to prepare a plan for your trip and visit it. As always, you can use the map below to reach the historical attractions near the Green Mosque in less than 15 minutes.
