History and culture of Bolour Bathhouse

Bolour Bathhouse’s building form, designs, and especially paintings date back to the Safavid dynasty, but there is no evidence of who build it or exactly when it was created. All we know is that flower and nature paintings are from the Safavid era and paintings of humans are from the Qajar era when the bathhouse was renovated. It's currently a stone museum but there is no further information.

Architecture of Bolour Bathhouse

The Bolour Bathhouse has approximately 1200 m2 floor space, and a 6-meter underground. However, it’s not dark at all duo to the roof holes that provide light during the day. From the entrance to Sarbineh (changing room), you have to go down 13 staircases, other places of the bathhouse are, as well, based downstairs. Sarbineh is the coolest and Garmkhaneh (hothouse) is the hottest place in the bathhouse and they are separated by a corridor from each for controlling body temperature to prevent any sicknesses. Garmkhaneh consists of Khazaneh (hot tub), cold tub, cleaning room, fireplace, and restroom. Octagon plan of Sarbine, rhombus-shaped stone garden pond and other designings show Qajar artwork. Water supply was also generated from Akhound and Shah subsurface water.
