Geographical location of Sardar Bozorg Cistern
Sardar Bozorg Reservoir is located on the east of Railway Street in Qazvin. The area where this water reservoir is located is in the southeast of the historical context of Qazvin. With the construction of the railway street along Sepah street, the water storage of Anbar is next to the street. History and culture of Sardar Bozorg Cistern
This reservoir was built in 1227 AH by Mohammad Hassan Khan and Mohammad Hossein Khan Sardar, commanders of Fath Ali Shah Qajar. The founders of this reservoir were two brothers named Mohammad Hassan Khan and Mohammad Hussein Khan, commanders of the time of Fath Ali Shah, Mohammad Shah, and Nasser al-Din Shah. Each of these brothers built a reservoir in Qazvin, which is known as Sardar, which both were named Sardar while one is bigger than another.
Architecture of Sardar Bozorg Cistern
This domed building, which is a significant and unique example in Iran, has a high and brick dome with skylights installed on its brick body.
This reservoir is a large and interesting system of urban water supply with a reservoir volume of 3000 cubic meters. On both sides of the entrance to the Sardar Reservoir, there is a stone platform for sitting and resting, as well as a stone path and each staircase with an average height of 25 cm, which leads to the famous canal to the Milky Way, that has an arched roof.
The entrance of Ab Anbar has a wide arch with a gabled arch and two side arches in the form of two floors, which is decorated with brickwork and tiling in a geometric design. The inner ceiling of the central arch has brickwork decorations along with formalization and the use of decorative pavilions that have been further decorated with tiles.
The huge dome of the reservoir is made of brick and the wind is located in the highest part of it and the height of its highest point to the bottom of the reservoir is about 5.28 meters and now the floor has been filled to the extent of 3 meters, which is 5.25 meters high. In addition to the central windbreak, four other mesh holes have been installed in the dome for ventilation.

This reservoir is located on Railway Street, which is one of the oldest streets in Qazvin. At the southern end of this street is the Qazvin railway station. This station is almost the southernmost point of Qazvin city and there is no other residential and urban part after it. If you come to Qazvin by train, this reservoir can be one of your first options to visit. If you visit, be sure to pay attention to the description of the guide. To the north of Rah-e-Ahan Street is Sepah Street, which is the oldest street in Iran, and the Qazvin Grand Mosque is located in the middle of this street. Next to this mosque, there is another reservoir, which is known as the reservoir of the Grand Mosque, and now there is a handicraft market. Right in front of the door of the Grand Mosque and on the other side of Sepah Street, you will see a sign that guides you to the Hakim Watershed. In the northernmost part of Sepah Street, there is a Safavid government complex.
