Geographical location of Aref Qazvini Mausoleum

Aref Qazvini’s tomb is located next to Avicenna Mausoleum in Bu Ali Sina Square, Hamedan, Hamedan Province, Iran. Avicenna Mausoleum was built and designed in 1932 by Houshang Seyhoun, a well-known and highly talented Persian architect.

History and culture of Aref Qazvini Mausoleum

Abolqasem Qazvini was Molla Hadi’s son and was born in 1882, in Qazvin city.  He studied Persian and Arabic grammar in Qazvin. He learned music from Sadegh Kharazi and Noha Khani (Shia lamentation) from Mirza Hossein Vaez, and his own father. His father insisted on wearing a “turban” as Aref was young, but after he died Aref took off his turban and stopped Noha Khani. He met the love of his life at the age of seventeen and got married in secret. But after a while, he was forced to get a divorce because of family issues and never got married again.

He went to Tehran in 1903 during the constitutional period and wrote many poems which inspired constitutionalism to success. He was known as a national poet and wrote many political and pro-revolutionary poems as well as lyrics. He always invites his fellows to fight for freedom and do not let the foreigners take over the country.

In World War I, a few months after Russian army almost reached Tehran, Aref's closest friend committed suicide and it affected him a lot and drove him crazy. Nezam al-Saltaneh, the then-prime minister, send him to Baghdad, the capital of Iraq, for treatment. But one problem after another happened until he got Malaria and went to Hamedan for treatments. He lived in a humble house in Darreh Morad Beyg south of Hamedan City between 1928 and 1933 until he departed this life at the age of 52. That is why although he lived in Qazvin most of his life, he was buried in Hamedan.

Aref’s house is in the Hamdollah Moustofi district in Qazvin city, Qazvin Province, north of Iran.

Aref Qazvini’s mausoleum is located in the area of Bu Ali Sina (Avicenna) tomb along with an exquisite library and a stunning museum of the country’s history. It’s a really good spot for tourists to enjoy Persian history and culture and use nearby facilities such as hotels, restaurants, and etc. at the same time. Also, if you take a few-minute-walk to the northern exit of Bu Ali Sina Square, at the end of the street, you can see the most amazing square in the city, Imam Khomeini Square. The houses around the square have spectacular and special architecture. Near this square, Jameh Mosque and Traditional bazaar of Hamedan is located, both of which are highly recommended to visit. Between these two places are two large caravanserais called Mirza Kazem and Golshan, which are full of people and have an ancient atmosphere.
