Geographical location of Chenar Zarabad
Chenar Zarabad is located in Zarabad Village in Alamut District in Qazvin Province. It is placed right beside Imamzadeh Ali Asghar shrine.
History and culture of Chenar Zarabad
According to remained inscriptions from the Safavid dynasty, this phenomenon dates back to king Sultan Husayn's reign. It has a 30-meter height and 10-meter diameter. Dou to a special feature of this tree, it’s been in great attention especially by Muharram grievers (Muslims grief over Imam Hossein’s death). Every year on the same day (Ashura, the tenth day of Muharram,) a reddish juice (sap) leaks out of the tree and the interesting point is that the Hijri date changes don’t affect this marvelous feature of this plane tree. Especially when Muharram is in winter and the phenomenon still occurs which is a mystery to everyone because the nature of the tree requires warm weather to flow sap out. Some witnesses also claim that the moment its juice leaks out you can feel the scent of heavenly flowers all over you.
Many people believe that the juice leaking out of the tree is human blood, but according to early researches and experiments, chemically this fluid has nothing in common with blood. Just sap flowing through a part of the outer tree truck that unlike other saps it will turn red when getting dry. Some people say that it’s all superstition and there must be a scientific explanation for it while others say it does what it does because of god will and cries over Imam Hossein’s unfair murder.
Tips and ideas
We highly recommend you to go there in Muharram especially on Ashura and Tasua, so that you won’t miss the unique experience of observing this phenomenon for yourself. It is also the best time to talk to your god, ask whatever you want, and open your heart. If you plan to go there, please take your time to enjoy the pristine nature of Alamut. Take a picnic and go there with your friends or family, but be careful since Alamut Road is a twisty one so the best visiting season is spring and the worst in winter. Although winter has its charm, driving in such weather is dangerous.
