Geographical location of Ali Sadr Cave
Ali-Sadr Cave, one of the natural wonders of the world and a rare example of navigable water caves, is located in Ali Sadr village, Kabudrahang County, 75 kilometers the northwest of Hamedan Province, Iran. The Ali Sadr Cave was created in Sari Qayah (yellow rock) Height.
There are three ways to reach Ali Sadr Cave:
- Lalejin District road to Bijar County which is newly built and better
- From Hamadan Airbase intersection (in Hamedan to Razen Road)
- From Hamedan Province to Salehabad District
The point of distinction about Ali Sadr Cave is that you can have easy access to its canals and it can be easily traversed and passed through by ordinary boats due to its vastness.
About 2 kilometers of the cave are available for sightseeing where usually takes 1/5 to 2 hours. According to the guide, about 12 kilometers and from other sources about 16 kilometers of the cave is discovered. At the beginning of the entrance, there is a long corridor on the right which after turning you'll reach the place where you board the boats.
After passing through the corridors for about 15 to 20 minutes, you should get out of the boat and walk in a cave to reach a pace where you have to take 118 steps up and then 130 steps down to continue your way.
On your way, you'll see fascinating icicles that are similar to the shapes of the needle, cauliflower, or umbellifers. According to the guide, the temperature of the cave is always constant in winter and summer and the weather is 16 degrees and the water is 12 degrees above zero. Perhaps it was the reason why early humans chose the cave to live in. At the top of the stairs, there are an interesting 5 meters high stalagmite. In some parts of the roof, there are large stones that have been carved. Under the icicles, the depth of the cave is about 130 meters in the basement, but the airflow is through the holes.
The water in the cave is colorless, odorless and it tastes as other water taste. There is no alive creature in it. Its temperature is constant throughout the year, at about 12 degrees Celsius, and is so clear that it can be clearly seen up to a depth of 10 meters with normal light and the naked eye.
History and culture of Ali Sadr Cave
The name of this cave is derived from the name of Ali Sadr village. According to research and available documents, the entrance parts of the cave were used by locals during the Safavid era.
The people of Ali Sadr village and the surrounding villages had known about the existence of this cave and used its water. Also, for the past hundred years, the people of the village divert the additional water of the river to Ali-Sadr Cave to use it as a reservoir and dam in the summer.
The first professional excavation in Ali-Sadr Cave was on September 28, 1963, by a 14 member's group of Hamedan mountaineering and sport climbing Commission, who were able to obtain prior information and bring the necessary equipment to move on the water, crossing the lake, through the branches, and visit its various halls to see the beauty and grandeur inside it and get the first information about the width, depth of the lake and the length, width and depth of the cave.
