Geographical location of Alvand Mountain

It’s located in the subrange of Zagros Mountains, 10 km south of Hamedan City, in Hamedan Province, west of Iran. This mountain range has many significant valleys and peaks such as Barfin, Ganjnameh, Ghez, Sarkan valleys and Chahar Ghole, Shah Neshin, Karkas, never summer, Alvand peaks.

Alvand peak is 3450 m in height and has a cat-shaped cliff. Unlike what others might think, Alvand peak is not the tallest peak in this mountain range; Yakhchal peak with an altitude of 3580 m is the highest peak in Alvand mountain range.

There are wide spaces among valleys in the heart of the mountains, which are called Takht (bed). These “Thakhts” are flat ground covered with all kinds of wild, native, and event medical plants. Takht-e Nader, Takht-e Rostam, Chaman Shahnazar, Mishan Plain, etc., all along with numerous waterfalls and springs, create natural guest houses and offer everything that causes happiness and joy to nature lovers.

The area of Alvand Mountain is like a natural wall that protects the city of Hamedan. Geologists consider Alvand to be the largest granitic effect left from the fourth geological period, which was created by the infiltration of igneous masses. This mountain was included in the natural heritage list by the Heritage Organization of Iran and is also one of the protected environmental areas.

Tips and ideas

Alvand Natural and Protected Tourism Area has good facilities for tourists. The complex has cable cars, bungee jumping, and a variety of local and traditional restaurants. In the middle of the mountains there’s a shelter that meets the needs of climbers. In addition, the historical inscriptions, waterfall, river, and artificial cave in Ganjnameh recreational complex have created a calm environment in the middle of nature.

If you like to climb Alvand peak, start from Ganjnameh Tourist Resort Complex. There’s a cable car in that area to begin with. After that, you have two options to continue; one of which is more difficult to cross. After about two hours of climbing, depending on what route you choose, you’ll reach Mishan Plain. It is 2600 in height and has a shelter for climbers to rest especially in winter when the weather gets super cold. Then, you can continue your way to reach Takht-e Nader at 2900 altitude. Some say it was named after Nader Shah who once climbed the mountain. Others believe that since it has a unique beauty and purity, it was named “Nader” which means rare and one of a kind.

There is a rift on the south side of Alvand, facing the city of Tuyserkan, which according to legends is the tomb of Sam; Noah’s, prophet, son. With a help of a guide, you can see this small and stoned pit on your way up. move to the right from Takht-e Nader to reach Kalagh Lan Peak.
