Teppe Sagz Abad the oldest archaeological site
Also known as
- Tappeh Sagez Abad
- Sagz Abad Hill
- Saqz Abad Hill
Geographical location of Teppe Sagz Abad
It is located in Buin Zahra County, southeast of Qazvin Province, in Iran. Sadly, it is not being taken care of properly, so the hill has a rugged road and there is no fence or sign around it; not even a guard to guide visitors and give them information.
History and culture of Teppe Sagz Abad
It dates back to the 10th millennium BC. Archaeologists have found some crafts buried under the ground in the hill that date back to the 2nd millennium BC; 86 pieces of crafts including pottery, cylinder seal, and arrowhead. With the age of nine thousand years, it is one of the oldest archaeological sites in the whole world. Marco polo has written about Teppe Sagz Abad in his journal and mentioned that it is on the way of Silk Road. Sagz Abad is one of the oldest permanent settlement areas in Iran’s plateau. It is assumed that people who lived there a long time ago were familiar with the technology of melting iron. There are some works from Iron Age (the final epoch of the three-age division of the prehistory and protohistoric of humanity) that can confirm this theory.
Tips and ideas
People who study archeology, art, and history, or merely like these majors, will love this ancient hill. At first you may think of it as a simple hill and ask yourself, why bother to visit? But if you look at it a little bit deeper and try to pay more attention to details, you can hear every stone’s voice talking about everything they have been through; unspoken years of happiness and suffering. Every single dust of the hill has a marvelous story to tell; to show you every footstep of men and women ever crossing that road at different times. Walking there is like walking on the heart of history; so many things to see and discover. Look around and imagine it was five thousand years ago. Imagine the people walking around, maybe running with their kids, playing, laughing, shopping, and bargaining. perhaps there was full of trees with singing birds flying from one tree to another and having fun.
Are you still thinking about it? just pack up and go. You surely don’t want to regret the chance for the rest of your life.
