History and culture of Lambesar Castle
Lambsar Castle is one of the most important Ismaili fortresses in the Seljuk era in Qazvin. And the architectural relics of the Sassanid era and early Islamic period can be seen in this castle. It was conquered by the Ismailis in the year 489 AH and gained great prominence during the period of Ismaili domination.
According to historical sources, the castle was originally owned by a man named Rashamoj, but Kia Hassan Omid, a close friend and believer in Hassan Sabah, was designated as his successor, along with several others, started to occupy and develop the castle. Kia Hassan has lived in the castle for 20 years.
Architecture of Lambesar Castle
Lambsar Castle is located on a broad, flat mountain and is separated from the other surrounding mountains due to the rivers surrounding in the western, eastern and southern slopes.
The castle is about 480 meters in the north-south direction and 190 meters in the east-west direction. There is a huge wall about 10 meters high on the east side, and just parts of it now remain.
Lambsar Castle leads from the east, south and north to the dreaded cliffs. Its eastern part, the Nine River side, is less steep. So they built a huge, thick wall with very large stones that still parts of it remained. The defensive towers of the area display their dominance over the surrounding valleys and the southern plain.
The castle's water was supplied from the Nine Rivers, two miles from it, and was stored in several storages by a canal drilled in the rock. This waterway, which enters the fort from the north, leads to the water of rectangular cubic warehouses. These cisterns are dug in the heart of the rock. Three other water storages, such as these, can be found on the north and east sides of the castle walls.
In the last part of the castle's sloping courtyard, a very large stone located from east to west, several water storages are dug in the heart of the rock, near each other. The large storage water is about 12 meters long.
These reservoirs were not the only place to store the castle's water, because at the bottom of the eastern wall of the castle and where the reservoirs were dug out of the castle, there was a covered area of 19 meters high, leading to rugged stairs to the river.
It is the most important Ismaili fortress after Alamut Castle (Hasan Sabah Castle) and is the largest Ismaili fortress in Alamut.
