Geographical location of Abshineh Pond
Abshineh Pond is located 15 kilometers away from Hamedan Province in Hamedan-Malayer Highway, west-central Iran. Abshineh Dam is fed by Abshineh River and behind the dam, this wonderful pond is created. Abshineh River, also known as Yalfan River, originates from Yalfan Village; near Ekbatan Dam Reservoir. The river flows into Ekbatan Dam and branches off again through the dam gates to irrigate the gardens of Sangestan rural district. Abshineh River crosses the west of Abshineh village, forms the border between Abshineh and Sangestan villages and irrigates Kanjineh, Yeganeh, Sorkh Abad, and Robat Shorin villages along its way.
This pond with an area of 85 hectares represents one of the many natural beauties of Hamedan. Abshineh Dam has been built along this river and the beautiful pond that has emerged near this dam is a place for migratory birds to stop and rest. Ever since 2011, it was included in the no-hunt zones due to its environmental values and rich species. The bird species in this area include Crane, Pelican, and Coot. Also, some other birds that stop in this Talab while migrating from African countries include Flamingo, Great Egret, Tern, little and big Grebe, Harrier, Glareolidae, and Stilt. In the spring, Abshineh Lagoon is full of birds; on the other hand in autumn and late October, the presence of flocks of birds in this place promises that the winter is coming.
