Nahavand City has many forests, but Gyan Forest with an area of 425 hectares is one of the most captivating ones which has an overflowing spring that irrigates agricultural lands of about five nearby villages.
The Gyan hill and other ancient hills around it date back to the fourth and fifth millennia BC. Also Sarab Gasiab is another nearby spring. Extensive forests with old trees such as oak, sycamore, walnut, etc. have increased the freshness of that area. Gyan is a Kurdish word meaning "soul" (or jaan in Persian) and is known as "Sarab Jaan" or Sarab Gyan due to the beauty of the region. These forests are said to be remnants of the Zagros Forests. The discharge of this spring is about 2500 liters per second, which after drinking and agricultural uses of the surrounding villages, the excess flows into the Gamasiab spring.
This scenic area is connected to Nahavand by a narrow road, on both sides of which the remains of 200 hectares of old Zagros Forests will catch your eyes and an extremely beautiful view of mountains and vast plains on the west side of the road will amaze you.
