Geographical location of Shakin Cave

This cave is called Shakin because of its proximity to Shakin Village; however, it is also known as Talarha cave for having continual halls. Shakin village is a part of Ziaabad district of Takestan city in Qazvin, Qazvin province.

The entrance is to the south of the cave, which opens to the main hall with a steep of 8 meters. The first hall, also known as the main hall of the cave, is shaped circular which includes two corridors.The northern corridor reaches the North Hall, which includes a number of natural corridors. The western corridor enters the great western hall, which like the northern corridor, divides into a number of corridors, eventually leading to smaller ones.

The hall is now beneath a massive pile of rubbles that has been dug out for a metal extraction canal and separated from the rest of the cave.

History and culture of Shakin Cave

Shakin Cave is one of the ancient caves of Iran which has a great value to all because of its special geographical location and the existence of a permanent water source at the bottom of the cave. It was one of the important places of the cave period.

Also after that period, it was a very safe place to seek refuge when foreigners arrived. The abundance of pottery left over from various eras confirms this fact.

This beautiful cave was one of the oldest zinc mines. The existence of ancient channels in different parts of the cave indicates the use of these metals in making bronze.

The cave has now been leased to miners for metal extraction. In addition to its ancient advantages, the Shakein cave has a distinct form of birth that distinguishes it from other Iranian caves.This has increased its importance in geological studies.
