Ancient Anouj castle is located in 35 kilometers southwest of the Malayer country in Hamedan Province, Iran. The Castle is built on a high hill in a village which has the same name in Sefidkooh district.

History and culture of Anouj Castle

Historians believe the Castle belongs to 6 centuries BC. This 8000 year­­-old castle despite the damages in its different parts, is a strange one. Doing excavation activities along with the Castle for digging a tunnel has destroyed some parts of it. People used these tunnels as a hidden way for escaping from enemies.

Architecture of Anouj Castle

This castle, because of its long history, is made of simple materials such as clay and mud. The aqueducts which dug in the castle have some old traces of carving. The oldest aqueduct is Ezatollah aqueduct which you can visit these matchless carvings on its south side.

There are some important and ancient traces in the village, where the castle is located, related to Malaye’s full of ups and downs history. The Bagher neighborhood’s cemetery is very old and its gravestones are decorated with cuneiform. Do not miss the historic watchtowers in different parts of the village.
