Geographical Location of Bashgol Protected Area
Bashgol Protected Area is located eight kilometers northwest of Takestan, in the area of Qaqazan village. Bashgol Protected Area with an area of approximately 26,000 hectares is part of the Takestan Protective field, named after the abandoned Bashgol village in the center of the contract area.
There are 13 mountains in Bashgol that are part of the Alborz mountains. Banchal mountain, with a height of 2128 meters, is the highest mountain in the region. Also, the valleys of Sarhang castle (Qar-e-Dash), Shanin are split from the northern Banchal mountains which all have permanent springs.
This region has a different habitat since it has a unique geographical location. The southern part of the area is the habitat of gazelle and the rest of this hill are the ewes and rams habitat. Due to the large number of villages in the area that are empty of population, the area is very suitable for wildlife, and in addition to gazelle, ewes, rams and other animals such as wolves, foxes, jackals, boars and rabbits.
There are two historical and cultural monuments as Imamzadehs, such as Haft-sandogh and Qaz Castle in the area.
History and culture of Bashgol Protected Area
The Bashgol area was banned from hunting and shooting by the EPA on August 1, 1989, when the sheep, ewes and rams population was drastically reduced and around 20 heads were reported.
With the enhancement of species safety and population, in order to improve the level of habitat security and biodiversity conservation in the area, according to Resolution 151 of the Supreme Council of the Environment (Government Infrastructure Commission) dated February 27, 1996, The area has been incorporated into the areas under the management of the EPA, with an area of 25,344 hectares.
